Liverpool havebegun to prepare for the summer as Jurgen Klopp is keen to strengthen the squad in ahead of next season. One player that the reds are looking at is Real Madrid star Marco Asensio according to reports from England.

The Guardian claims that Liverpool has identified the player as a key transfer target and are looking to make a move for the youngster in the summer. Asensio has not enjoyed the best of seasons at the Bernabeu as he has fallen down the pecking order at the club.

After the early season hype in which many in Spain saw the departure of Ronaldo in the summer as his time to become a key player. The 23-year-old has suffered from injuries, inconsistency and managerial instability which has plagued his season.

The arrival of Brazillian wonder kid Vinicius Junior has also seen him lose out of the first eleven and he has only started 12 games in the League all season. He is expected to leave the club as part of the summer clearout in Madrid and several clubs are monitoring his situation.

Liverpool is no strangers to being linked to Madrid players as the club has also been linked with out of favour midfielder Isco. Klopp is looking to bolster the attacking options of the club as Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita have provided mixed successes this season.

“Furthermore, the German tactician is not convinced that Daniel Sturridge or Divork Origi can play“ at the highest level for the club. Asensio came off the bench in Real Madrid's humiliating midweek defeat in the Champions League against Ajax and scored the only “goal for the Spanish “side.

A fee of around £55million has been touted by media sources as the price placed on the player by the Spanish giants.
