ITALY CALLING

This might be Daniel Agger’s last season in the English top flight as the 29 years old centre-back is believed to be interested in making a move to Italy.

Napoli might be his next destination if the reports coming through have truth in them.

The man who is in charge at Napoli at the moment is Rafael Benitez with whom Agger has worked in the past and the duo’s relationship is brilliant. So, the Danish international would surely have more opportunities to play there.

The second thing is that Napoli is more likely to qualify for the Champions League than Liverpool at this point of time. So, by moving to Stadio San Paolo, Agger would give himself a better chance of featuring in the Champions League next season.

Agger had been the first choice centre-back for Liverpool in the last couple of seasons, but, this season, he has fallen down the pecking order as a couple of other quality defenders have joined the Reds camp.

In the ongoing season, Agger has made only 13 appearances for Liverpool so far and that’s quite a bit less than the no. of appearances he used to make previously.

However, recently, Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool boss, has lost a couple of his vital defensive options because of injuries and right now, his defence looks a bit shaky. So, it’s hard to imagine that he would weaken his defence even more by letting Agger go. It would be really interesting to see what happens in the next few days in that regard.

As far as Agger’s overall stats at Liverpool is concerned, he has played a total of 166 league matches for the club till now and has found the back of the net 8 times.
