HOW AGGER BECAME A LIVERPOOL HERO

Liverpool signed Daniel Agger from Brondbyat the start of 2006 for a £6m fee and only few would have predicted that the ex-Danish international would endear himself to supporters on and off the pitch. The Reds made him the most expensive defender in their history with the transfer from Denmark. He had spent two years in the first team at Brondby. He became an instant hit at Liverpool as he justified every penny spent on his transfer. Spanish tactician Rafael Benitez was the Reds manager that masterminded his move to the Premier League.


On what made him an instant hit on and off the pitch at Liverpool, Daniel Agger revealed in one of his interviews via planet football that he felt he belonged at a big club like Liverpool. Agger became a cult hero as a result of his performances for the club. In his first year at Liverpool, Daniel Agger helped the club win the FA Cup title at the expense of West Ham United whom the Reds beat on penalties in addition to the Community Shield.He would have enjoyed more success as a Liverpool player if not for his numerous injury problems. He had to take painkillers on numerous occasions to help him through games while he was at Anfield.

Daniel Agger made 232 appearances for Liverpool in his almost nine-year stay at the club before he returned to his native Denmark. He returned to Brondby in 2014 and went on to play for the Danish team for two years before calling time on his football career at the age of 31. He had to end his career at an early age as he finally succumbed to injury. Since leaving the pitch, Daniel Agger has concentrated on his numerous businesses. He has investments in the tattoo and sewers industry.
