Daniel Agger Impressed With Virgil Van Dijk’s Impact At Liverpool

Liverpool favourite Daniel Agger has spoked about the impact Virgil van Dijk has had since his January move from Southampton. The Netherlands international announced his arrival to the Kop with a late winner against Everton in the FA Cup, and he has since integrated seamlessly into the starting lineup under Jurgen Klopp.

Whilst the 26-year-old may still have issues with his positioning, Agger is impressed with the way he has improved the performances around him, most especially defender Dejan Lovren and goalkeeper Loris Karius, he told the club’s official website: “I watched him play before and he is a really strong player. Taking the step from Southampton to Liverpool is not always easy, but it’s impressive how he’s started. He looks like he’s going in and looks like he is in charge. As a defender, as a team, it’s important to have a man like that. It’s still early, but I hope he can bring the best out of those around him at the back.”

Aside from Van Dijk, the former Liverpool skipper was also pleased with how the Reds have improved as an attacking force. The Merseyside outfit had gone through a phase where they could not find a leader in the attack after Luis Suarez’s exit, but the partnership of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane has truly lit up the stage, as per Agger.
Liverpool have lesser commitments having dropped out of the FA Cup in the fourth round to West Bromwich Albion, and they may concentrate more on their Champions League campaign, which remains the sole route for Jurgen Klopp to claim his maiden silverware, something which he has come close to with the League Cup and Europa League finals during the 2015/16 season. Liverpool are currently third in the Premier League standings with 57 points after 28 games into the campaign.
