Daniel Agger Confident after Liverpool Results

Former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has opened up on his surprising results from Liverpool in the summer.

It was only 12 months ago that the Danish defender was linked with a move to Barcelona for just under £ 20 million. Liverpool resisted the urge to sell him, but he was allowed to leave for just under £ 5 million a year later. He featured very less under Brendan Rodgers last season, which prompted rumours that he had fallen out with the coach. Agger came back to his former club Brondby at a time when many players will still be playing in a top-level European league.

The 29-year-old is still at the top of his game and he could have easily secure a move to another top European club. However, he feels that a return to Brondby at a time when he is still able to offer much to his club was the need of the hour. Liverpool signed Agger from Brondby in 2006 for a fee of around £ 6 million. In his eight years at Anfield, Agger went on to make more than 230 appearances for the Reds. He was known for his impressive passing abilities, which made him adept even at left back. Agger has hinted that the lack of regular football was one of the major reasons behind leaving Liverpool.

"I felt like the last time at Liverpool I needed a change, after many, many years. It's just a feeling, it's difficult to describe. If I could write everything myself, I would have stayed there [at Liverpool] for the whole of my contract period, but I felt it wasn't right. And when I feel something is not right, I have to take the consequences and try and do something else. I had a great home there, my family enjoyed it, my kids enjoyed it there, they felt a big part of Liverpool,” said Agger.
