AGGER RECALLS WHEN HE ASKED TO BE SOLD TO BARCELONA

Former Liverpool defender has recently opened up on when he asked former manager Brendan Rodgers to be sold to Barcelona in 2014. The ex-defender said he was seriously pleading with Brendan Rodgers to allow him to leave Liverpool then in favor of a move to the Camp Nou in the 2014 summer transfer window after he was fed up with life at Anfield.

The former Denmark international defender was reportedly in tears and tendered in a transfer request after he heard of Barcelona's interest in signing him. He never moved to Barcelona though, as a move was blocked by both Rodgers and the club.

The reason for the failed transfer was that Liverpool were short of defenders and needed every defensive option they had as they were short of time to bring in a replacement if they had allowed anyone leave the club. Agger was rated at £12 million then and was a very affordable option for the Catalan giants given his quality and experience but the deal was never going to happen in the first place.
He was 29 years of age as at then and the reason he broke down to tears was that he knew it was his last chance to seal a big-money move to another big club given how time was no longer on his side.
When speaking in the interview, Agger said that it was no secret he had problems that season. He said he was seriously considering things, including his future and cutting off ties with the Anfield club. He said he did not like how events unfolded both for him and within the squad that year and it was the main reason he wanted to leave.
However, after the move was blocked, he decided to re-commit himself to Liverpool and requested that he played more games to be sure he would not regret leaving.
