Michael Laudrup was approached for the managerial job by the Football association of Denmark, but, he refused to accept the offer.

A statement released by the association read, “We tried to get Michael on board, but, it did not materialize. He is not willing to take up the job right now because of private reasons.”

Laudrup is the 5th most capped player for Denmark till date.

He was an absolute superstar in the soccer world in the eighties and the nineties.

The 51-year old, who was a playmaker, made more than 100 appearances for the Red and White.

Laudrup has pursued a career in management and has had the opportunity to manage clubs in different countries, but, he has not had as much of success in that field as he had as a player.

He is currently jobless after parting ways with Lekhwiya a few months ago.

According to some of the reports, the main reason why Laudrup has opted to deny the offer of Denmark association is that he feels because of his image of a genius in the eyes of the Football fans in the country, the hopes will be immensely high with him if he takes charge and he will be under pressure right away.”

Denmark did not have a successful European qualification campaign. They could only secure 12 points out of 8 group games and finished at no. 3 in their group.

They had to go into the playoffs thereafter where they were beaten by Sweden and got knocked out.

Taking the responsibility of the failure, Morten Olsen, who had been in charge of Denmark for a long, long time, resigned from the post of the manager and ever since, there had been discussions that Laudrup would succeed him in the job, but, as it has turned out, it’s not going to be the case.
