Liverpool defeated opponents Sydney FC 3-0 in a friendly game played to celebrate the club’s 125-year anniversary.

Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher got action time as they played 46 minutes apiece.

Daniel Sturridge, Alberto Moreno and Roberto Firmino scored each of the three goals against the Australian side. Sydney are the A-League title holders – a title they lifted earlier this month after seeing off stiff competition.

Over 72,000 fans were in attendance at the ANZ Stadium. Before the game kicked off, they paid tribute to the victims of the Manchester Arena attacks.

Jurgen Klopp mixed past, present and future stars in the team that played the game. Carragher played alongside DejanLovren at the centre while Gerrard played in central midfield. Ben Woodburn and Harry Wilson were given starts.

The game was not boring for long as Sturridge scored within ten minutes by sending his effort to the bottom corner. Liverpool seemed too fast for their opponents. Moreno scored in the 18th minute. Firmino has sent the ball that Moreno controlled before sending it to the far corner.

Sturridge, who had a great game, sent a cross that Firmino flicked in for the third goal. The fans wanted to see Gerrard score. He had the chance but he was brought down by Rhyan Grant. The referee disregarded the calls for a spot kick. Soon after Carragher and Gerrard were replaced by Steve McManaman and Daniel Agger – Redslegends as well.

McManaman was involved in an effort that almost scored when he linked with substitute Adam Lallana but Woodburn’s effort was blocked. England Under-17 star Rhian Brewster also got a chance to show why he is highly rated. Liverpool played convincingly and the home side were pleased.
