Daniel Sturridge has suffered another setback to his promising career after being ruled out for another month due to injury.

The striker had a very positive spell in his first full season as Liverpool when he was playing alongside Luis Suarez. It looked like the Reds had found themselves an incredible bargain after having signed him for around £ 12 million from Chelsea. However, Sturridge has gone from one injury to another in the last 18 months and it looks like there is no relief in sight. He was expected to return to first-team action in the crucial game against Manchester United next week.

Now, though, Liverpool have revealed that the striker has had a setback in his recovery and that he will miss much of September as he focuses on rehabilitation. The upcoming few weeks will be very important for Liverpool after having once again made a poor start to the season. The team has had just one win from the opening three matches and this also includes a 3-0 thrashing at home to West Ham United. The game against United is not the one the club would have been wishing for with this kind of form. The presence of Sturridge would have made them stronger, but it looks like Christian Benteke will be the go to man.

Even though the Belgian international has been struggling with a tight hamstring, he should be fit for the game against United. The club are remaining hopeful that the player is likely to come back for the Capital One Cup match against Carlisle United towards the end of September. Manager Brendan Rodgers will also want to give Sturridge an easy return into the first-team rather than a heavyweight clash against United. The major absentee, though, will be midfielder Philippe Coutinho, who is suspended after receiving a red card in the previous match.
